I totally agree. I remember the day we signed Phil Parkes for £500,000, a world record for a goalkeeper at that time.
The first I personally knew of it was when I read it in that evening’s Evening News. Prior to that our interest had never been mentioned. We actually had a real coup with that signing and that no other club was aware.

I was saying this to a mate earlier about the Greenwood/Lyall era. There was a few ponies bought but generally they were spot on in the transfer market. Devonshire, Cross, Parkes, Stewart, Pearson, Goddard, McAvennie, Ward etc

I prefer the days of when Greenwood and Lyall were managers. None of our transfer targets were mentioned in advance, most of them were only publicised when signed.
The board in those days weren’t perfect, but they never backed themselves into a corner with regard to potential managers, again, only mentioning them when the ink was dry.
The problem we have at present with our current situation, is that the four ‘so called leading candidates’ will all drop out one by one, until we are left with a Grant, Roeder or Bilic situation and being left feeling totally underwhelmed, yet again.
As for Moyes, I personally think he should have been given a chance and to form his own squad, but we don’t even have him to fall back on to now.
Sullivan should just shut up and stop spouting off!

Well with Fonseca out and Pellegrini allegedly wanting ridiculous wages I fear that our only other 'best' choice is Rafa. So it has to be him.
